Sometimes, the impact of a team goes far beyond the scoreboard.

Following a tournament in Cloverdale, a member of the community took the time to write a heartfelt, handwritten letter to the Hoopa Valley HS softball team—recognizing not just their performance, but the way they carried themselves throughout the weekend.

Competing in three games over two days in 90-degree heat, Del Norte showed incredible toughness. But what stood out most was their heart, teamwork, and sportsmanship. From a pitcher who “never skipped a beat,” to the way the team supported one another, their effort left a lasting impression on players, families, and even opposing fans—some of whom said they’d “always remember watching you play.”

Moments like this remind us what education-based athletics are all about—leaving a lasting impression through effort, respect, and pride.

That’s what it means to shine.
